AWARDS, CELEBRATIONS AND GOODBYE FOR ANOTHER YEAR: MWFF DAY FOUR

The 2019 Melbourne Women in Film Festival has come to an end! After four days of empowering films, discussions and collaboration, the festival ended with a screening of Rachel Perkins powerful documentary Black Panther Women. It was also a night of achievement with a number of awards being given out to some of the outstanding short films screened throughout the festival.

Starting off, the Audience Choice awarded five films within the four shorts categories; Room 264 for Sinister Shorts, Ladies Lounge for Freshly Squeezed Shorts, The Clams and Blazers for Stranger Than Fiction and Cherry for Next Gen Shorts. An Act of Love and Blood Sisters tied for the Critics Choice, while Salt in Wounds and An Act of Love both took home the Programmers Choice Awards. Two deeply impactful films took home the big awards of the night, with Gabrielle Brady’s The Island winning the Black Magic Design Award for Best Short and Astrid Dominguez’sWe Vanish winning the Lemac Award for Best Next Gen and the Script Central Award for Best Screenplay (Next Gen).

This years Melbourne Women in Film Festival has certainly turned out spectacularly and will hopefully continue to celebrate the amazing work of women in years to come.
