MWFF Critics Lab 2025: Applications Now Open
Now in its eight year, the MWFF Critics Lab is an initiative to support the development of a new generation of screen critics. We bring great people together to facilitate discussion of screen culture, celebrate established critics, and mentor emerging talent.
We are excited to open the call for applications for Critics Lab 2025. As part of the MWFF Critics Lab, participants will be involved in workshops with established screen critics and will produce content for publication before, during and after the festival. MWFF Critics Lab participants will be granted access to films, publicity materials, guests and networking opportunities throughout the festival. Each year, members of the MWFF Critics Lab watch all short films in the MWFF program and decide the winner of the festival's annual "Critics Choice" award.
MWFF Critics Lab is open to people of marginalised genders, including women, non-binary folks, trans men and people with Indigenous gender identities. We accept applications from future critics from Melbourne and throughout Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the island nations of the wider Moana Oceania.
